Tiered Transformation

The Brief;

  • Create a safe and usable space

  • Child friendly

  • Family garden

Some gardens' present huge challenges, and this was one of those gardens'! With huge level changes, a health and saftey headache for a young family with two dogs and two children. Our brief was to create a space that was safe for the children and could host both children and adults. So we set to work and picked a hilly area of the garden to flatten, and thus create tiers. Once we had the garden in three tiers, we could think about how these spaces would be used. The flat areas are the best for the childrens and the areas near the house were better suited to the dining and evening entertainment. After a lot of digging we built retaining walls using sleepers and installed a timber and wire contructed balustrade to create a safe barrier for the children, but still allowed a 'see through' visual element. We sunk the existing trampoline on the third tier, and also build in a slider, climbing wall and sand pit into the retaining wall. We cladded all exisiting woodword with cedar shiplap, and used a splitface stone on the lower walls of the garden. We worked the ground enough to install new grass, perfect for football, and we also built a base for dad's shed. The perfect garden for all of the family to enjoy.

A happy client...

It was a pleasure having Larissa and James around the house, kids and dogs for 3 months while we watch them transform our dangerous, unkept outdoor space into something really special for kids and adults alike. They are trustworthy, hardworking, honest and always try to add that extra touch or listen to our ever changing needs. Thanks both, we will see you again soon for sure. - Mr Armstrong
